Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because whiter teeth has become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

A touch-up will be needed periodically. This can be more frequently if you smoke, drink coffee, tea or wine.

What does tooth whitening involve?

This type of tooth whitening usually requires two visits.

First Appointment
  1. Impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.

Second Appointment
  1. Proper fit of trays will be assured and adjustments will be made if necessary
  2.  The trays are worn with special whitening solution twice a day for 20 minutes for several weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.

It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays. Regular visits to Dr. Weyman for cleanings and exams  will help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.

Need sedation for the procedure?

Anesthesia and IV Sedation can be administered to help reduce any discomfort during the procedure. Most patients report that they were much more comfortable following the procedure than they had anticipated. Dr. Weyman may prescribe medications to ease any discomfort that may occur.

The medications used for IV Sedation are more effective than the same medications taken orally. There is a more profound amnesia associated with this technique.

Dr. Weyman and his staff have significant advanced training in IV Sedation. Dr. Weyman has taught hundreds of dentists IV Sedation at some of the top universities in the country.
