How To Protect Your Teeth While Enjoying Halloween Candy

Halloween is
just around the corner, and so are our concerns about the possible damage to
our teeth. A common concern for many of us around this time of the year is if
enjoying Halloween treats and candy will inherently cause tooth damage or if it
is actually possible to minimize it while still indulging on our favorite
sweets. At times, may even lead to a visit at the
sedation dentistry
office for a deep cleaning
of gums and teeth.
The easiest way of protecting our teeth from the high levels of sugar and acid would be consuming Halloween candy in moderation, if possible enjoying them at meal time. Why is that? Because the increased production of saliva will help get rid of and dissolve sugars and acids faster.
Brushing our teeth every night is mandatory in order to prevent cavities and is definitely a must during this time of year. Nevertheless, brushing them right after eating candy could be counterproductive, causing damage on the enamel which is especially sensitive after entering in contact with the acid from the candy. The best option would be brushing our teeth after about 30 minutes, in the meantime don’t hesitate to have a glass of water, doing so will help neutralize the acids and remove candy particles from the teeth.
There’s some good news for chocolate enthusiasts, chocolate bars are known for causing less damage to our teeth because they don’t usually get stick to them and are easily dissolved by saliva, which gives the sugars less time to attack on our teeth reducing the risks. It would be a great idea mixing them with healthier options such as sliced apple, it not only goes wonderfully with the chocolate bars but also helps getting rid of anything stuck to your teeth.
